Lake Monsters By far, the most famous lake monster of all dwells under the waters of Loch Ness. However, tales of creatures living in deep, cold water lakes stretch back to an era far before the arrival of the Europeans to the New World. Many lakes and rivers in the world contain such beasts, including Flathead Lake, Montana and the White River in Arkansas. Others, such as the monster reported in the late 1800's in Silver Lake, New York, turned out to be hoaxes perpetrated by a locals who profited from the resulting tourist dollars.
